On Saturday I set up a table at Cape Con, the library's comic convention held at Cape May Court House.

I chose Gaslands since it fit in pretty well with the pop culture theme of the event (everyone I talked to instantly understood when I described it as "Mad Max on the tabletop").

There were plenty of questions, and I had about 10-12 flyers go out, and a few more people took pictures of the flyer to save the info.

I explained the club's focus was on historic tabletop wargaming, with some fantasy and scifi as well. Next month's game of Blood & Plunder also caught some attention - people like pirates and big ships! Other interests were Saga (both Dark Ages and Fantasy) as well as the American Civil War and the American War of Independence. So we may want to look into setting up some games in the ACW and AWI as well!

Next year the event is going to be in February, since September is just too crowded for the library to compete for space. Since it went so well, I'm planning to run another game, probably something historical if I can find simple enough rules.

I directed them to the forum if they were interested, and hopefully

Bravo!  What a great way of recruiting potential members.  I have the “Rebels and Patriots” rules for AWI skirmish gaming.  I also have some 28mm figs.  I have not yet played the rules but have been looking forward to trying them.

I echo John Stanoch's response. Great initiative on behalf of the club, Brian! That's two first-rate steps you have made, recently. I believe that'd the best opportunities for growth will come from strong recruiting locally in the immediate region. And you are on to it. Incidentally, this summer I had a fleet of five "Mad Max" vehicles made up with various capabilities to plug into a Gaslands scenario at any future opportunity. Re Rebels and Patriots, John, I have 28mm AWI figures--both sides--rarin' to go. I think Bill Cloer would like to plan for our using them in a demo at Cold Springs Village next season, as he has been hired as the assistant curator with a focus on attracting more visitors.

AWI with Rebels and Patriots sounds like a good idea. I'll pick up a copy of the rules and we can plan to put together the right figures and terrain for a scenario.

Good. Where do I go to get a set of rules?

You can always go to our monolithic consumer overlords, Amazon. Anyplace that sells Osprey books will probably have it.

Yes I just saw one listed at AMAZON.COM a few minutes ago because I had a $25.oo gift card i've been wanting to use since Christmas, but bought some other Table Top War Gaming book instead.  I wish I had read this thread an hour ago.  C'est la vie.
